About Us

The Koinonia Community was initially founded in 1988 by a group of young men from different professions and backgrounds. Gathered around Fr. Renato Kizito Sesana, a Comboni Priest, the members lived together sharing their time, material and spiritual problems, and supported each other in an effort to build a better society. Today, the community has about thirty members and several persons in formation. All members are financially independent.
Community members are committed to the growth of the local society within which Koinonia is based. They try to bring together, in their daily lives, the best of the African tradition, the values of the Gospel and a commitment to belong to the modern world.

In line with their calling, Koinonia members strive to counteract the economic and social evils bred by individualism and abject poverty. The community gives priority to the marginalized in society, such as children in difficult circumstances - especially street children - as well as women and young people from poor backgrounds.

Special attention is given to modern means of social communication, and their role in fostering a sense of unity and belonging within the society.
Koinonia Kenya is involved in several activities and social projects. More information on these can be accessed through various links on this website.
There is a sister community in Lusaka, Zambia, and another one in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan.
